My name is Shannon Riggs. When I was 8 years old, my teacher told me about the AIDs pandemic in Africa. I wanted to help the orphaned children. This dream stayed with me. After spending almost a year overseas, mostly in Africa, I wanted to create a family style, indigenously run organization that helps children and their families who are orphaned and vulnerable to trafficking.

Africa’s Light wants to spread our message of love. We believe that as you devote yourself to the orphan, the hungry and the poor; that your light will break forth.

God promises that as you care for the poor, He will guide you, satisfy you, strengthen you, and make you like a flourishing garden. Isaiah 58 promises that not only will your light shine like the noonday sun, but also your healing will appear, your righteousness will be with you and the Lord will answer you when you cry out to Him.

That is why God gave me the name, Light, for this organization. I pray the Lord passes on the blessings promised in Isaiah 58, to you.

By giving to Africa’s Light, you are preventing children from experiencing further trauma. You are also empowering the young generation to be raised as leaders to their nation.

You are working with God to release light, healing and righteousness.

“and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry

    and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,

then your light will rise in the darkness,

    and your night will become like the noonday.

The Lord will guide you always;

    he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land

    and will strengthen your frame.

You will be like a well-watered garden,

    like a spring whose waters never fail.

Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins

    and will raise up the age-old foundations;

you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls,

    Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.”

Isaiah 58:10-12
